How we run our club
CY&BC is a volunteer community based club which in its 142 year history has welcomed members of all abilities and backgrounds. The Club is run by an volunteer Executive Committee who are elected at an AGM. Positions on the Committee are held for two years.
The current Executive has a 60:40 gender balance. The Executive is led by volunteer Commodore who has all organisational, financial and governance responsibility for the Club. The Commodore is supported by the Vice-Commodore, the Treasurer, Sailing Secretary, Executive Secretary, PRO, Membership and Events Secretary and House Convenor.
In addition each Class or type of boat has its own Class Captain to represent their views to the Executive Committee. The Executive meet once a month and are responsible for the running and governance of the Club. Accounts are externally audited annually.
There is an AGM which is open to all members at which motions and issues are debated. The Club has a written constitution and any changes to the Club Constitution can be made at the AGM.
Members do not need to own a boat to belong to the club, many members crew for other boat owners or avail of the dinghy rental scheme within the club. Members volunteer their time with work parties to prepare for big events, tidy the yard, maintain the facilities and other tasks.
